Meek Mill is back on the Late Night Tv circut. Yesterday, he returned to The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon for an awesome perfomance, but more importantly a serious discussion. Meek Mill used his appearance on The Tonight Show to discuss criminal justice reform, and how he plans to change the system.
First, Meek started off the discussion by talking about the environment in Philadelphia. He then touches on how it’s rampant with police brutality and drug addiction, which is volatile. Next, he discusses his own struggles with addiction. Then comes the discussion of how he and Mike Rubin came together to launch their criminal justice reform organization.
“There’s 6.7 million people in the criminal justice system in the United States. Five times the rate of anywhere else in the world,” Says Rubin. “There’s no logic. It’s a system that was built decades ago that makes no sense and it needs aggressive people to say ‘This is broken, we need to fix it’.”
“Our message will be simple,” he added. “How do we get a minimum of one million people out of the criminal justice system over the next five years? Also, in the long term, how do we cut that population in half?”
Next, Meek Mill touches on how dangerous the climate is in Philly, and how lucky he is to have escaped. “I come from a place where Black males lose their lives on a daily basis,” Meek says.
Families are torn apart by the system. Also mothers, fathers, kids are raised around addicts, and we made it through all that.”
