Rihanna’s Foundation Donates $15 Million To Climate Justice
Rihanna has pledged $15 Million through her Clara Lionel Foundation to climate justice organizations.
Rihanna says that climate change is a social-justice issue which effects people in certain places more than others. The donation will go to 18 climate justice organizations doing work in seven Caribbean nations and the United States. Those organizations include the Climate Justice Alliance, the Indigenous Environment Network and the Movement for Black Lives. In a statement, Rihanna said “climate disasters, which are growing in frequency and intensity, do not impact all communities equally, with communities of color and island nations facing the brunt of climate change.” The grants are part of a partnership with Twitter founder, Jack Dorsey and focus on groups with female, LGBT, and Black and Indigenous leaders due to their communities being at greater risk. Rihanna is from the Caribbean island of Barbados and her Clara Lionel Foundation is named after her grandparents.
