While Twitter faces a series of potentially unnecessary transformations under billionaire Elon Musk’s ownership, fellow billionaire and music sensation Rihanna continues to amass a significant following on the platform. As reported by Billboard, Rihanna recently overtook pop icon Katy Perry as the most-followed woman on Twitter. At the time of writing, RiRi boasts 108,278,326 followers, while Perry trails slightly behind with 108,258,344 followers. Elon Musk leads the pack as the Twitter user with the most followers, amassing an impressive 134,470,177 followers. Former U.S. President Barack Obama takes the second spot with 132,924,210 followers. Rihanna is currently chasing Canadian artist Justin Bieber (113,153,027 followers) for third place, while other top-followed celebrities include Cristiano Ronaldo (108,252,553 followers), Taylor Swift (92,581,835 followers), and Ariana Grande (85,268,269 followers). The increase in Rihanna’s social media prominence may be linked to her high-profile performances in 2023. She headlined the Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show for Apple Music in February, featuring chart-topping hits like “We Found Love,” “Work,” and “Umbrella.” In March, Rihanna graced the stage at the 95th Academy Awards, performing “Lift Me Up” from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The Barbadian singer also received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song for “Lift Me Up,” alongside co-writers Tems, Ryan Coogler, and Ludwig Göransson.
