Kelis Releases Rant Video After Claiming Beyonce & Pharrell Stole Her Song
Kelis took to Instagram to post a video rant aimed at Beyonce and Pharrell Williams. The singer claims the new Beyonce song, “Energy,” samples her 2000 single, “Get Along With You.” She says Pharrell stole the song out of spite after their relationship soured when she was signed to him. Although Kelis criticized Beyonce in the video, she went on to say, “This is really not about Beyonce. There is a lot of hypocrisy and a lot of nonsense. So we’ve got Pharrell who did an interview I think last year talking about artists rights and how people should be able to rework their deals and artists should be getting credit for what they’ve done and all this stuff. When in reality, when I was signed to him, I had the same manager that he had and he has writing credits on my records, all my singles, and he never wrote a song, a lyric a day in his life. And yeah, that’s a problem.” At the moment, it is not clear if a lawsuit will be filed. Producers are normally listed with writer credits for songs they produce.
