Elon Musk Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter caused a lot of skepticism from Black Twitter. Twitter experienced many deactivations and fluctuations in follower numbers after Elon Musk and Twitter agreed to a $44 billion deal. According to an NBC News report, the follower count for Twitter’s elite profiles like President Barack Obama, Katy Perry, and Taylor Swift decreased by hundreds of thousands. Twitter purges the platforms of bots and fake accounts, which sometimes can cause follower numbers to go down. However, the company confirmed that these drops are “organic” and not automated deletion. This means hundreds of thousands of users are voluntarily deactivating their accounts. Many Twitter users are worried that Musk’s feelings about free speech will cause more abuse, extremists, and the return of banned users.
