Recording Academy Invites Over 2000 New Voting Members
The Recording Academy invited over 2000 people to become voting members and over 600 more people to become professional (non-voting) members. The goal of the Academy is to expand and diversify membership. There are currently more than 12,000 voting members and 3,000 professional (non-voting) members. Ashley Thomas, director of member and outreach systems, said 56% of the total 2,700 invitees come from underrepresented communities. New member invitees represent over 13 different crafts and 22 different genres. The new members that have been invited have until July 12 to accept in order to vote for the 65th annual Grammy Awards.
