Will Smith Wins First SAG Award
Will Smith accepted his first Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading role. He was honored for his role as Richard Williams in “King Richard.”
Will took the stage to thank his co-stars and the Williams family. In a very emotional speech, Will said, “It’s all of these Black women that I get to protect and shine a light on, across the generations [like] Venus and Serena. I just feel such a responsibility. It’s like me and all Black women… It’s a responsibility I always wanted to shoulder. I want to be that man.” Smith is also nominated for Best Actor at the Academy Awards for King Richard.
