Will Smith Returns In Slave Drama, “Emancipation”
Will Smith is returning to the big screen in a new film, Emancipation. The movie tells the story of a slave named Peter (played by Smith) who begins a journey to gain his freedom. A two-minute trailer shows Peter planning to escape after hearing about the Emancipation Proclamation. The film is inspired by the famous 1863 photo of “Whipped Peter,” an enslaved man who joined the Union Army in hopes to reunite with his family. Emancipation is directed by Antoine Fuqua. The film will release in theaters on December 2.
