Tupac Shakur To Be Posthumously Honored with Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame
More than a quarter-century after his passing, legendary rapper Tupac Shakur is set to receive a star on the prestigious Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The award ceremony, to be held on June 7 in Los Angeles, will see Tupac’s sister, Sekyiwa “Set” Shakur, accept the honor in her late brother’s stead. The event will be hosted by renowned radio host, Big Boy.
Among the guest speakers at the occasion will be Allen Hughes, director of the popular FX documentary series, ‘Dear Mama,’ and Tupac’s godfather Jamal Joseph.
In a press statement, Ana Martinez, the producer of the Walk of Fame, expressed her admiration for Shakur. “Tupac Shakur was not only a rapper and actor, but also an activist, poet, and revolutionary,” she said. “His influence remains a vital part of the cultural dialogue even decades after his demise, and he will continue to hold significance for years ahead. As a native son of L.A., Tupac’s star is sure to join the ranks of the most frequented.”
The bestowing of this star follows the exploration of Tupac’s life in the documentary series ‘Dear Mama’ on FX. The series’s debut episode set a new record as FX’s highest-rated premiere for a non-scripted series.
The entire five-part series of ‘Dear Mama’ is currently available for streaming on Hulu.
