Bobby Shmurda Bobby Shmurda recently went on a rant about producers overcharging for beats now that he is an independent artist. In the rant, Shmurda said he is not paying $8-10k for beats then turning around and having to clear samples. Boi-1da, a producer behind a lot of Drake’s biggest records, responded to Bobby Shmurda with a tweet that read, “Designer beats cost designer bread.” Cardo also chimed in with a mini-rant of his own that spoke on artists not showing respect to producers. He tweeted about producers being shortchanged while having to support their families. Back in 2017, Sonny Digital called for a union to protect the rights of producers and make sure they get proper recognition for their work. Producer ATL Jacob recently tweeted he felt that XXL should make a producer freshman list as well, just like the artists.
