Missy Elliott Missy Elliott shared advice for artists working on their sophomore album via her Twitter account. Artists usually have concerns when releasing their second album due to the “sophomore slump.” The slump refers to an artist not being able to live up to expectations after following up their debut album. Missy tweeted, “Sophomore Albums are a very PIVOTAL time for artist! Here is a gem from MISSY! Your sophomore album be stressful but it’s the BEST ALBUM to EXPERIMENT on! Don’t be AFRAID! Becuz if u play safe you will be BOXED in & its hard to get out because your fans get used to that 1 sound.” Missy Elliott followed telling musicians to go with their gut instead of listening to others’ suggestions. She mentioned one of her biggest tracks, “Lose Control,” which saw huge success despite her label and others saying it would not work.
