Miami’s Rap Icon Trina Hosts Public Event in Honor of Slain Niece, Baby Suga
Trina, the renowned Miami rapper and influencer, experienced a personal tragedy when her 17-year-old niece, Toni Chester, affectionately known as “Baby Suga,” lost her life in a shooting incident in 2022. This event cast a somber shadow over the star’s otherwise bright influence.
Fast forward ten months, and Trina, often referred to as “The Baddest,” is organizing an event to honor Baby Suga’s memory. The gathering will take place in South Florida, specifically between 63rd-65th Street & NW 15th Avenue in “The Magic City,” not far from where the unfortunate incident occurred.
According to Local 10, the event, titled “The Welcome to Suga Land,” is a free public affair aimed at families. Slated for Saturday, May 20, the event’s primary goal is to bring attention to the damaging impact of gun violence.
The “Love and Hip Hop” celebrity shared details about the event on her Twitter, mentioning a collaboration with the Diamond Doll Foundation. In addition to honoring her niece, the event will also celebrate Trina Day 2023.
AllHipHop.com previously reported the tragic news in July. Upon receiving a 911 call shortly after midnight, police arrived at the scene, where they found Baby Suga deceased. Two other individuals were found with non-life-threatening injuries. These victims were transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital, sustaining gunshot wounds similar to the late teen. Due to privacy reasons, their identities and conditions have not been made public.
