Memphis Rapper GloRilla Draws on Southern Rap Legacy for her Latest Single ‘Lick Or Sum’
Memphis-based rapper GloRilla is connecting with her city’s rich musical legacy by reviving a classic Southern rap track.
GloRilla was inspired by Tear Da Club Up Thugs, a subsidiary group of Three 6 Mafia, to create her latest single, “Lick Or Sum.”
Three 6 Mafia’s Juicy J and Philadelphia-born songwriter and rapper Derrick Milano worked together to produce “Lick Or Sum” for GloRilla. The song creatively incorporates elements from Tear Da Club Up Thugs’ “Slob on My Nob.”
An official music video for “Lick Or Sum” was released on YouTube yesterday, featuring GloRilla and her friends dancing energetically to the beat crafted by Juicy J and Derrick Milano.
GloRilla’s new release comes after several collaborations, including her participation on “On Wat U On” with Moneybagg Yo, “Ex’s (Phatnall Remix)” with Lil Durk, and her earlier solo track this year, “Internet Trolls.”
Last November, GloRilla unveiled her EP, ‘Anyways, Life’s Great…’ The CMG/Interscope released EP included the Top 10 hit “Tomorrow 2” featuring Cardi B and the Gold-certified “F.N.F. (Let’s Go)” with Hitkidd.
Fans of GloRilla will have the opportunity to see her perform live during Lil Baby’s “It’s Only Us Tour” this summer. Furthermore, she is set to participate in the Cardi B-headlining Summer Jam concert in New York, hosted by Hot 97.
Tear Da Club Up Thugs, which consisted of Juicy J, DJ Paul, and Lord Infamous, has influenced various artists over the years. Their hit “Slob on My Nob” has been sampled by numerous artists, including G-Eazy in “No Limit” and A$AP Ferg in “Plain Jane.”
