Mekhi Phifer Shoots Down Idea Of 8 Mile Sequel
TMZ caught up with Mekhi Phifer and asked him about his interest in filming a sequel to 8 Mile, the battle-rap themed movie featuring Eminem. He told them he doesn’t see a possibility of making an 8 Mile 2. “Sometimes it’s best to just leave it at one,” Mekhi said. “Sometimes it’s just best to leave it alone. Once you make a classic, no reason to fool around with it.” Mekhi went on to say that they already told the story they needed to tell and while a sequel could be interesting, he wouldn’t do it and he doubts Eminem would either. Mekhi Phifer played a battle rap host named Future in the movie. Eminem starred in the movie as an aspiring rapper, B-Rabbit. The film grossed over $116 million at the domestic box office and $242 million globally. Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” won the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2003.
