Jay-Z Among Group Acquiring “Mitchell & Ness”
Jay-Z, Meek Mill, Lil Baby, Maverick Carter, Fanatics, The D’Amelio family and others have officially acquired the lifestyle brand, Mitchell & Ness.
Jay-Z released a statement expressing his excitement to be part of the iconic brand. “I’m proud to play a small role in bringing it back, and in some cases, introducing the authenticity and quality of the Mitchell & Ness brand to a new generation,” Jay-Z said. Mitchell & Ness was founded in 1904 and remains the spot for nostalgic sports jerseys, licensed lifestyle products and more. The company has deals in place with the NBA, NFL, MLB, MLS and some NCAA schools. Michael Rubin, CEO of Fanatics, expressed his excitement as well by adding “growing up as a kid in Philadelphia, we looked at Michell & Ness as a badge of pride, and I truly believe this legendary brand has no limit.” The goal of the deal is to advance the licensed sports industry by merging Mitchell & Ness’ business model with the reach of Fanatics. The current CEO of Mitchell & Ness, Kevin Wulff, will keep his position but reports to the president of Fanatics in the merger. Mitchell & Ness has 132 employees, mainly in Philadelphia and Irvine, California. They will not be relocated and will keep their position but now transition to employees of Fanatics.
