Hip-Hop Turns 50: Audible Originals Collaborates with Rap Icons for Exclusive Content
Audible, the popular audiobook and podcast platform, is set to honor hip-hop’s 50th anniversary with a series of Audible Original specials featuring collaborations with legendary hip-hop artists, such as Snoop Dogg and Lil Kim.
Snoop Dogg’s “Words + Music: From the Streets, to the Suites” is scheduled for a June 15 release. As part of the 30th-anniversary celebration of his Doggystyle album, Snoop wrote and performed “From the Streets,” directed by Angie Martinez. Brooklyn-born rapper Lil Kim will also contribute a Raedio-produced “Words + Music” installment, set to premiere in August. Additionally, Yasiin Bey’s “Words + Music: yasiin bey: A Dynamic Career in Communications” is slated for a July 7 debut.
DJ Drama, co-founder of Generation Now record label, has teamed up with Audible Originals for “DJ Drama Presents: Gangsta Grillz,” launching on July 13. Chuck D’s “Can You Dig It?” is set to premiere on August 10.
Audible EVP and Head of US Content, Rachel Ghiazza, expresses pride in celebrating hip-hop’s rich history and cultural influence, adding that these new originals “elevate and commemorate the 50-year history of this iconic genre.” Other featured content includes “The Greatest Day: The Epic Story Behind Hip-Hop’s Most Iconic Photograph” (June 15) and “The Motherlode: 100+ Women Who Made Hip Hop” (August 10).
