Gap Inc. has found itself embroiled in a new legal battle with Kanye West, as reported by TMZ and Radar Online. The renowned clothing company filed a lawsuit against the rapper, seeking $2 million in damages. This lawsuit is tied to a separate litigation involving unauthorized changes to a Yeezy store situated in Los Angeles, owned by Art City Center. Art City Center, which leased a downtown LA building to Gap for use as a Yeezy store from 2021 to 2022, filed a breach of contract suit against the clothing retailer in 2022. The basis of the dispute was Gap’s unauthorized modifications to the structure, in violation of the leasing agreement which specified that any alterations required prior approval. Art City Center alleged that “numerous, significant, unapproved modifications” were completed, and the building wasn’t returned to its original state. The company sued Gap for $1.5 million in damages. In response, Gap is now taking legal action against Kanye West. The company claims that the rapper was responsible for all the changes made to the building and hence, they shouldn’t be held liable for his actions. According to Gap, they were erroneously sued by Art City Center and are demanding $2 million in damages from Kanye West, their former collaborator. Kanye West and Gap entered into a partnership in 2020. However, West ended the deal in 2022, just a month before being dropped by Adidas, adding another twist in his series of legal challenges.
