E-40 Bestowed with Honorary Doctorate from Grambling State University, Recognizing His Significant Contributions
Grambling State University, Louisiana, conferred an honorary doctorate upon E-40 during a graduation ceremony held on May 12.
The acclaimed rapper, who was a student at the university in the 1980s, was invited to address the Spring Class of 2023.
The honor was particularly poignant for E-40, who expressed his deep gratitude. “This means so much to me,” he stated.
E-40 has shown his commitment to Grambling State University not just with words, but also with financial support. Earlier this year, he made a generous donation of $100,000 to the university, funds that were directed towards supporting the music department and the marching band.
Reflecting on his donation, E-40 said, “I just wanted to make a contribution to my school, Grambling State University. After discussing with Dr. Nikole Roebuck, Grambling’s band director, we decided on this, and I’m delighted with the outcome. I feel really good. God is great.”
In recognition of his contributions, the university named a recording studio after E-40 in February. The renowned West Coast artist also showcased the university in his recent music video for “Bands,” released in March.
Rick Gallot, the president of Grambling, praised E-40’s accomplishments and his willingness to give back to his alma mater. “E-40 has leveraged his recording artist success to build an entrepreneurial empire,” said Gallot. “We are incredibly thankful for his substantial contributions to the university. His investment in our state-of-the-art student recording studio will greatly benefit our present and future students.”
