Cam’ron Reinvents Himself as Sports Talk Show Host: Talks ‘It Is What It Is’ & Reuniting With Mase
Cameron Giles, better recognized as Cam’ron in the hip-hop world, solidified his reputation as a rap icon out of Harlem in the twilight of the ’90s.
Now, in 2023, Cam’ron has made a career leap and transitioned into the role of an online sports talk show host on ‘It Is What It Is’.
“As Hip Hop enters its 50th year, I reflect on my 25-year journey in this industry. I didn’t want to be stuck in my 1997 persona. Reinvention was key,” Cam’ron, the force behind the ‘Confessions of Fire’ album, stated on Good Day New York.
Joining him on this venture is fellow Harlem-born rapper Ma$e. They co-host ‘It Is What It Is’ podcast on Cam’ron’s YouTube channel, ‘Come And Talk 2 Me’, which has raked in over 7 million views since its inception in January 2023.
Passionate about sports and eager for a presence on television, Cam’ron said, “Instead of accepting offers to be part of someone else’s show, I decided to create my own. Let’s see where this takes me.”
The rapport between Cam’ron and Ma$e hasn’t always been smooth, with their past including a fiery altercation on Hot 97 in 2004 and an exchange of diss tracks in 2017. Yet, their collaboration on ‘It Is What It Is’ feels like a reconciliation.
“Ma$e was instrumental in getting me my first record deal. Having him on this show feels like a way of paying back that initial faith he showed in me,” Cam’ron shared with Good Day New York.
The leader of Dipset added, “Without Ma$e introducing me to Biggie Smalls [The Notorious B.I.G.] and securing my first record deal, I might not be where I am today. This show is my way of expressing gratitude. Hopefully, it will serve its purpose.”
