Fresh off of the release of 4 new tracks, and the announcement of a Kanye West-produced album, Chance the Rapper has made yet another surprising move, and purchased popular Chicago media outlet, The Chicagoist.

Founded in 2004, The Chicagoist is a local news publication that recently shut down last year due to staff unionization. On one of his four newly released tracks, “I Might Need Security”, Chance explains why he bought the publication. “I bought the Chicagoist just to run you racist bitches outta business.”

Chance goes on to further explain his mission in purchasing the platform by saying “I’m extremely excited to be continuing the work of the Chicagoist, an integral local platform for Chicago news, events and entertainment…WNYC’s commitment to finding homes for the -ist brands, including Chicagoist, was an essential part of continuing the legacy and integrity of the site. I look forward to re-launching it and bringing the people of Chicago an independent media outlet focused on amplifying diverse voices and content.”

Chicagoist readers and fans alike are excited to see what the rapper will do with the platform moving forward.
