Beats by Dre is showing the world it’s keeping its finger on the pulse of sports and entertainment with its newest commercial. With an all-star line up of Nicki Minaj, Nas, and Serena Williams, headphone company Beats By Dre debuts its newest 30-second commercial.

The commercial takes place on a stoop in Queens where Serena Williams faces a dilemma. The tennis champion is conflicted between her roles as an athlete and as a mother. First, Nas (the narrorator) introduces the setting and problem. “In fair Queens, a conflict sits,” he says, tongue in cheek, “between two sides, our hero split.” Says the Queens rapper.

The conflict is then visualized by Serena being pulled in two different directions. She is wearing an all black leather ensemble on one side, and a pink flowing dress on the other. One group wearing all black pulls her in one direction. The group wearing the flowing pink pulls her in the opposite direction. Finally, Serena Williams is able to break free of the pull of both sides. After she releases herself, she is symbolically free to be both a mother and athelete.

Once Serena breaks free and is crowned, it is then Nicki Minaj’s turn to add her two cents. Finally Nicki appears, wearing a crown of her own. The Queens rapper then delivers a line from her famous “Monster” verse. “Now watch the Queen conquer”, she boldly states.
