In an interview with the New York Times, music and business mogul Jay-Z spoke on his new documentary, Rest In Power: The Trayvon Martin Story, a tale of a 15 year old boy who was slain by an overzealous community watch member, and subsequently found not guilty of the murder due to Florida “Stand Your Ground” law.
During the interview, when asked if the 6-part docuseries was intended to inspire a change in the “Stand Your Ground” laws, Hov revealed that it was definitely part of the intention.
“Yes, absolutely,” he said. “Again, it’s an educational process. This law, we have to get people to understand what it says. Of course, he will not be found guilty. It’s very difficult to be found guilty with this law as it stands today.” remarked Jay-Z.
He also adds that the system needs ammendments, because it is not properly functional in this day and age. “The system doesn’t work as it exists today. No one wants to talk about that because it’s as if you are bashing police officers. I’m not bashing police officers. I’m just saying the facts do not support this being the answer, the system as it stands today.”
