Celebrated director John Singleton, known for fusing hip hop culture and film, has passed away yesterday, after his family decided to take him off life support following a massive stroke.  Singleton, who was the first African-American nominated for an Academy Award for Best Director, reportedly died “peacefully, surrounded by his family and friends.”
