Legendary rapper LL Cool J has filed a new trademark lawsuit against the organizers of the defunct Rock the Bells festival. In the suit filing, LL claims the founder Chang Weisberg and promoter Guerrilla Union, Inc. tried to trademark “Rock the Bells” in 2004. This of course, is the name of LL’s hit 1985 single, which the festival is named after. The organizers did not obtain permission and susequently violated the rights to the phrase.
As a result, LL Cool J petitioned for a Trademark Trial and cancellation of the Guerrilla Union’s trademarks. He eventually won the trial. However, the situation wasnever fully resolved by the other party, resulting in the new lawtsuit. The festival organizers continued making efforts to trademark the phrase, and now LL is asking a judge to grant an injunction that will prevent the festival from using the name. He is also suing for unspecified damages.
