When the NFL announced that Maroon 5 would be performing at the 2019 Super Bowl, many fans were excited about the news. Conversely, many people did not agree with the selection. Atlanta rapper Waka Flocka was one of the people who vehemently disagreed. He believes the NFL should allow Atlanta artists to perform at the Super Bowl, since it takes place in Atlanta.
In a conversation with TMZ, Waka called out the NFL for what he says is an unfair move. “I think the Super Bowl, you should have somebody that’s from Atlanta, representing Atlanta…They need somebody from Atlanta, it’s only right,” he proclaimed. “It’s not fair, but this the NFL we talkin’ about—they’re not fair.”
Additionally, Waka Flocka made the point that the NFL also acted unfairly when it came to Colin Kaepernick. He also stated that the league should be showing more support in the “Blackest city”. “You’re coming to the biggest Black state in America,” he continued. “Why wouldn’t you let a Black artist perform and show the world that we’re progressing? That’s not cool.” The rapper even suggested a few performers. He named the Migos and Future as excellent picks for the halftime show.
In conclusion, its unlikely that Future and Migos will perform, however, Cardi B and Travis Scott are rumored to be guest performing during the show. That may be the closest Waka will get to Atlanta hip-hop at the 2019 Super Bowl.
