Eric B & Rakim Hip-hop legends Eric B. and Rakim joined forces for a momentous performance in New Jersey, commemorating the 50th anniversary of Hip-Hop. The groundbreaking event took place at The Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ, marking the first-ever Hip-Hop act to grace its stage. The iconic duo delivered a powerful tribute to five decades of Hip-Hop as part of the North to Shore Music Festival. New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy introduced Eric B. and Rakim, acknowledging their extraordinary contributions to the genre. He specifically highlighted their timeless hits such as “Eric B is President” and “Paid in Full,” along with their reunion in 2016. The historic concert also featured upcoming Asbury Park Hip-Hop acts, including the talented 10-year-old Ryver Bey. Rakim expressed his appreciation for the younger generation, emphasizing that they represent the future of hip-hop and should always approach it with sincerity and love. Reflecting on the performance, Rakim commented, “You don’t understand 50 years of hip-hop, it took something to get here. (Bey’s) the next train who’s going to take the next load of people to hip-hop’s future. Do it from your heart always, you know what I mean? Peace and love to the little queen.” For Eric B., performing at The Stone Pony was a dream come true. In a press release, he expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to be the first Hip-Hop group to grace the stage of a venue that has hosted countless iconic acts. Celebrating 50 years of Hip-Hop, Eric B. acknowledged the unprecedented significance of the moment.
