Ice Spice Over the past year, Ice Spice has experienced a remarkable journey, propelling herself from a viral sensation to gracing the prestigious Met Gala. With an impressive streak of three Top 10 songs in 2023, this talented artist from the Bronx is undeniably an early frontrunner for the coveted title of Best New Artist of the year. Ice Spice first caught the attention of the music scene with her breakout track, “Munch (Feelin’ U),” which gained significant traction last year. Fast forward to June 2023, and three of her songs, namely “Boy’s a Liar Pt. 2” featuring PinkPantheress (No. 3), “Princess Diana” with Nicki Minaj (No. 4), and “Karma” with Taylor Swift (No. 2), have secured their places in the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100. While Ice Spice’s success has been widely celebrated by her fans, some were taken aback when they discovered her absence from the 2023 XXL Freshman Class. According to TMZ, the 23-year-old Capitol recording artist made a deliberate choice to decline the opportunity of being featured on the magazine’s annual cover. Reports suggest that Ice Spice opted out of the Freshman Class due to her packed schedule, which includes upcoming festival performances and guest appearances on other artists’ tracks. It appears that the rising star prioritized her commitments over the coveted magazine spot. Ice Spice now joins the ranks of esteemed artists who, for various reasons, missed out on the XXL Freshman issue but later soared to unparalleled stardom. The likes of Drake, Nicki Minaj, Tyler, The Creator, Post Malone, and Cardi B, among others, never graced the cover but still carved their paths to superstardom. While Ice Spice may have turned down the opportunity to be part of the 2023 XXL Freshman Class, the magazine did acknowledge and showcase several other emerging rap talents. The 2023 class features Finesse2tymes, Lola Brooke, Rob49, Fridayy, GloRilla, 2Rare, SleazyWorld Go, Central Cee, Real Boston Richey, Luh Tyler, TiaCorine, and DC The Don, all of whom are poised to make their mark in the industry.
