The story of the life and times of Tupac Shakur is on its way. According to Deadline, Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films is working with Morgan Creek Productions to co-finance the film (with an estimated $45 million budget).

Deadline shares that the biopic has the rights to Pac’s extensive music catalog and the late rapper’s mother, Afeni Shakur, will serve as a producer on the film. A star has not be selected for the coveted role of Pac.

Earlier this year, it was reported that new music from Tupac was on its way. In a statement to Billboard, Afeni Shakur said, “I believe it is our responsibility to make sure that Tupac’s entire body of work is made available for his fans. My son left many incomplete pieces and even more unfinished ideas. Using the blueprints he gave us, I am committed to fulfilling this duty.”

In addition, a Broadway show featuring 2Pac is also in the works. Kenny Leon, the theater director responsible for versions of “A Raisin in the Sun” (which starred Diddy), “Gem of the Ocean,” “The Mountaintop” and “Stick Fly,” is preparing his first musical, dubbed “Holler If Ya Hear Me.” The musical won’t be biographical in nature, but the director told the Wall Street Journal that it’s an anti-violence, “unconditional love story” featuring Shakur’s music.

The movie will begin filming in February 2014.
