SZA’s ‘Kill Bill’ Breaks Record on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart, Surpassing Mary J. Blige
SZA’s hit single “Kill Bill” has spent its 16th week at the top of Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, breaking a record previously held by Mary J. Blige.
The Top Dawg Entertainment singer now holds the title for the most weeks at No. 1 by a lead female artist in the history of the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop chart. Mary J. Blige’s “Be Without You” previously held the record, with 15 weeks at the top in 2006.
During its record-breaking week, “Kill Bill” amassed 23.4 million U.S. streams and 6,000 downloads. The song is featured on SZA’s sophomore album, SOS, which was released in December 2022. It reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in January 2023.
SZA now leads a list of highly successful R&B women, including Beyoncé, Mariah Carey, Deborah Cox, and Alicia Keys, who have all spent 12 or more weeks at No. 1 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
With 16 weeks at No. 1, “Kill Bill” is now tied with Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” for the overall Top 5 for most weeks at No. 1 in the chart’s history. Drake’s “One Dance” and the Jack Harlow/Lil Nas X collaboration “Industry Baby” both spent 18 weeks at No. 1, while Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” holds the top spot with 20 weeks.
