GloRilla Shines in the 2023 BET Awards Nominations, Outpaced Only by Drake

GloRilla Rising star GloRilla is making impressive strides in her burgeoning music career, earning the second-highest number of nominations at this year’s BET Awards, topped only by Drake. On Thursday (Jun. 8), the nominations for the 2023 BET Awards were revealed. The awards show is set to take place later in the month. Despite Drake leading with seven nominations, GloRilla is hot on his heels, earning six nods and making her the most nominated female artist. Among her nominations is a mention for Album of the Year for her EP, “Anyways, Life’s Great.” Expressing her excitement, GloRilla shared on Instagram Stories, “Mind you this was only an EP.” Acknowledging her noteworthy accomplishment on Twitter, GloRilla posted, “I’m second behind DRAKE with da most BET nominations this year. Thank you lord & thank y’all.” In addition to Album of the Year, GloRilla also earned nominations for Best New Artist and Best Female Hip-Hop Artist. This highly competitive category also features well-known artists like Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion, Latto, Ice Spice, and Coi LeRay. GloRilla has double representation in the Best Collaboration category, with her songs “F.N.F. (Let’s Go)” with Hitkidd, and “Tomorrow 2” with Cardi B. The remix of “Tomorrow” is also vying for Video of the Year. In other recent news, GloRilla, a CMG artist, released more music this week, featuring in iCandy’s “Keep Dat N*igga (Part 2)” alongside Kali and Big Boss Vette. In May, GloRilla paid tribute to her southern roots by interpolating a classic song by Tear Da Club Up Thugs, a subgroup of Three 6 Mafia. The new single, “Lick Or Sum,” co-produced by Juicy J of Three 6 Mafia, captures the essence of her hometown’s musical heritage. The 2023 BET Awards is scheduled to broadcast live on Sunday, Jun. 25.
