Latto Alyssa Stephens, widely known by her stage name “Latto,” has proven to be among the most successful hip hop artists to break through from the realm of reality TV. Winning the first season of Jermaine Dupri’s TV series ‘The Rap Game’ in 2016 under the moniker ‘Miss Mulatto’ marked the start of her prolific career. Since her initial victory, Latto’s career has seen a meteoric rise. She signed a contract with RCA Records and enjoyed a Top 5 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Big Energy”. Additionally, she hosts Apple Music’s 777 Radio show. Her impressive resume also includes wins at the BET Awards, BET Hip Hop Awards, and iHeartRadio Music Awards. Some followers have questioned why Jermaine Dupri, the founder of So So Def label, did not sign Latto after her win on ‘The Rap Game’. In an interview with HipHopDX, Dupri addressed this question. He clarified, “People frequently say, ‘Jermaine, you missed an opportunity with Latto.’ However, they overlook the fact that I released Latto’s record. As per the deal of ‘The Rap Game’, the winner gets a single from Jermaine Dupri on So So Def, which we did. But the issue was that Latto was only 16, and the song didn’t receive the support it deserved. Latto only garnered attention when she began producing more explicit records and adopting a more adult persona.” Latto was honored with her first RIAA Platinum Award in March 2021 for the hit single “B#### from da Souf”. The 24-year-old rapper’s song “Big Energy” earned a double Platinum plaque in October 2022, with her collaboration “Muwop” with Gucci Mane also reaching Platinum status. Her album ‘Queen of da Souf’ reached No. 44 on the Billboard 200 album chart, while her 2022 release ‘777’ debuted at No. 15, placing it in the Top 20 of the Billboard 200. Adding to her list of accomplishments, Latto recently hit a significant milestone by crossing the 1 billion streams mark on Spotify.
